BED BUG TIP: Ummm… We don’t really have one. Lots of people will tell you that they have bed bug prevention tips, but don’t believe them. There is no magic bullet. Okay, here’s a tip (sort of)… if you find out you do have bed bugs – get them treated QUICKLY. If just a single pregnant bed bug is left in your untreated home, four months later you’ll have 9,600 of them. At the five month mark you’ll have 31,500.
RODENT TIP: If you use snap traps, place the trap perpendicular to the wall with the bait side butting up against the baseboard. Can you guess why?
SPIDER TIP: Do you see webs on just one side of the house? Let me guess. The shady side. They are not there for the shade so much as they are for the moisture. The shady side of a house requires less irrigation than the sunny side. Pooled moisture attracts spiders.
FLEA TIP: If fleas find their way into your home, their eggs will find their way into your carpet. Vacuum and toss the vacuum bag into the garbage. The next day, do it again. The next day, do it again. Continue vacuuming and removing the bag daily for a full week to dislodge all hangers-on.
STORED FOOD PEST TIP: Little moth-like bugs flying around your pantry? You can cure the problem yourself by throwing out everything in your pantry. But a cheaper solution would be to place all questionable items (boxes of cereal, grains, noodles, rice, flour, etc.) inside sealed ZipLoc bags. Whichever sealed bag ends up with winged bugs inside goes into the garbage – the OUTSIDE garbage.
